Sorrow on the Passing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos
Dear Friends:
The American Middle East Institute expresses our deep sadness on the passing of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said Al Said, the long-time leader of Oman.
His Majesty was a valued friend to the United States, and indeed to all nations, and was a force for good in the Middle East, working tirelessly – and usually behind the scenes – to defuse tensions and bring about peace and understanding.
Over the years, our Institute has had the privilege to host many Omani Ministers as well as the Ambassador from Oman. All of these dignitaries invariably reflected the goodness and wisdom of their Sultan, who was a role model for everyone.
We extend our deepest condolences to the people of Oman and convey our best wishes to the new Sultan, HM Haitham bin Tariq al-Said.
